上海向来是外资企业的集中地，这里居住着来自各个国家的外国人。于是，上海的保姆业有了一个新的需求，那就是涉外保姆，由于东西方文化的不同，涉外保姆在雇主家亦因此多了许多摩擦和碰撞。本片讲述的就是涉外保姆在老外家酸甜苦辣的故事。 巧云（吴玉芳 饰）本事一家国有企业的办公室人员，无奈企业改制下了岗。屋漏偏逢连夜雨，此时丈夫出轨离家出走了，巧云不得不负担起养活一家人的重担。通过介绍，巧云来到了一家美国公司的总裁莫尔夫妇家当保姆。莫尔家的小捣蛋鬼弗兰克异常调皮，想尽办法处处为难巧云。 下岗女工吴根兄（杨昆 饰）性格泼辣，在别人介绍下进入了一个香港老板家当保姆。这个家的老板娘黄太太其实是二奶，刁钻刻薄的她难以伺候。 外来工香草（丁丹妮 饰）在墨西哥植物学家雷切尔家做保姆，雷切尔虽然善良热心，但为人十分正直，两人亦经常因此口角不断……
