《永不放弃》通过某医院急诊科里的一个个鲜活的事件和人物，从多个侧面表现了人们在现代生活中的生存状态和对生与死的判定。急诊科医生杜小青的母亲在文革中自杀身亡，父亲也于一年前去世，大哥杜鲁生20年前牺牲在中越前线，留下年轻的妻子周映雪和儿子杜田田。急诊科主任李大明与同院外科主任梅云本是一对志同道合的夫妻，但从国外离婚回来的杜小青与李大明在工作上配合默契，两人的关系在院里引起议论。医院院长白天明与牺牲的杜鲁生是好朋友，多年来他默默地爱着周映雪，可这份感情始终未被接受……故事就围绕着这几个急诊室医护人员之间错综复杂的情感关系而展开。
