在大厦停电的这一晚，摩天大楼C栋20层的居民钟美宝（杨颖 饰）死亡。根据现场勘查，她的额头曾遭重击，吸入过量煤气，初步判定为谋杀。在调查过程中，警察发现钟美宝的邻居作家吴明月（孔雁 饰）、房东林大森（郑人硕 饰）、前夫林梦宇（马亮 饰）、保安谢保罗（吕聿来 饰）等人都与她有着不同寻常的关系。每个人都有自己的目的和动机，每个人都似乎与她的死亡有关，而他们的背后又隐藏着不能轻易为外人道的秘密。随着调查的深入，真相逐渐浮出水面，而最终的结局令人惊谔不已…… 本片根据台湾作家陈雪的同名小说改编。
