该剧讲述一宗骇人听闻的无头女尸血案，一个被削官去职流放关外的总兵官，两者竟有著千丝万娄的关系……江南名捕佟林(郑少秋饰)为寻失踪爱妻翠娘(何晴 饰)追至古北口，镇上突然发生无头女尸案，林即参于查办。 途中两差押送被贬之总兵官赵无忌至，投宿悦来客栈，栈内龙蛇混杂，杀机满布，老板海大娘(郑佩佩)与女儿海棠(张庭)亦被牵连其中，后更与赵之旧部属儿(黄文豪)一起营救赵。一切就绪，林发现无头尸身份竟与朝中拥赵派有密切关连，真凶竟然是…
